Buchhorn from Burgdorf to Pigeon, Michigan, USA

In spring 1923 Heinrich Buchhorn set out for the USA, to Michigan. He was born on March 09, 1896 in Clenze, Germany and lived as his whole family did in Burgdorf near Hannover, Am Försterberg 10. His travel began in Bremen on May 06, 1923 when he was a passenger on the "President Arthur". He arrived in New York on May 27, 1923 and probably went directly to Elkton near Pigeon in the county of Huron.
His uncle Niedeck-Flügge lived there , who paid Heinrich's passage to America.
The entry in the passenger list is hard to read, it could also be Elwon, but a town with such name doesn't seem to exist. Everything is focused on Pigeon, so must it be Elkton.

The next family member to arrive in America in the winter of 1923, was Walter Buchhorn. His emigration started in Bremen on November 14, 1923, the ship was the "President Harding". He set foot on American soil on November 24, 1923 and went to Pigeon. His address in Pigeon was his cousin Eduard Eichler. His contact person in Germany was Adolf Lünemann in Hänigsen, Burgdorf county. Adolf Lünemann was the brother of the mother of the emigrants from Burgdorf. Walter Buchhorn was born on August 01, 1906 in Woltorf.

Both brothers travelled home to Burgdorf in 1928 and began their return to Bremen on April 28, 1928. They were passengers on the ship "Columbus" and were accompanied by their younger brother Willy Buchhorn. Willy was born on February 02, 1908 in Woltorf.

  Michigan, USA

All three brothers worked for a car manufacturer in Detroit. Heinrich or Henry as he was called in America, and Willy, lived in 1328 Elmwood Street in Detroit. They still had the same address in 1951. Where Walter lived is not known.
Henry married a Vera G. ???. She was born on July 06, 1902 and was a born American. Henry and Vera travelled to Germany in 1930 (Honeymoon?). They boarded the ship "Hamburg" on August 28 and arrived in New York on September 06, 1930. Again in 1951 Henry and Vera appears in the passenger list. They were passengers on the "Queen Elizabeth" and used the passage between Cherbourg and New York. Arrival in New York was on January 02, 1951.

Walter never married.

Willy married twice. I know nothing about his first marriage, but more about his second one. His second wife was the widow Florence Stegherr, nee Hansel and was born on September 24, 1923. The marriage took place in April 1984 with the destination of their honeymoon also in Germany.

The three brothers received visitors from Germany in 1934. Their father Heinrich Buchhorn, a post office clerk, and the mother Elizabeth Buchhorn, nee Lüdemann were passengers on the ship "Europa", which left Bremen on May 25, 1934.

In spite of the emigration of the three brothers there still was a huge family in Germany in existence. Beside the parents Heinrich Buchhorn, born in Bausen near Lüchow on October 19, 1869 and the mother Elizabeth Buchhorn, nee Lüdemann, born in Luckau near Lüchow on January 07, 1874, also existed:
Friedrich, Werner, Martha and Lilly Buchhorn.

Friedrich Buchhorn was missing in action since December 01, 1942 in Stalingrad, Russia and Werner Buchhorn since the withdrawal of the German Wehrmacht from Poland.
Before their dead, both sons gave their parents grandchildren. Friedrich Buchhorn is the father of Joachim (Jim) Buchhorn who lives in Garden City, Michigan today.
Werner Buchhorn's son is also called Werner and lives in the Hamburg area. Werner's mother is Charlotte Buchhorn, nee Sassinek and she lives in Berlin. Charlotte Buchhorn was born in 1919.

Martha Buchhorn ended up in Waddeweitz in the county of Lüchow-Dannenberg. She married the sawmill owner Otto Seeband and they lived in no. 18. Their son is Reinhard Seeband.

Nothing is known about Lilly Buchhorn. Lilly has a daughter with the name Vera L. Stecher. Vera lives in Ohio today.

Elizabeth Buchhorn died on May 10, 1939. On December 05, 1939 Heinrich Buchhorn move from Burgdorf to his daughter Martha in Waddeweitz were he probably died. The Buchhorn family lived in Burgdorf since April 01, 1909.

The three brothers also passed away:
Heinrich (Henry) Buchhorn died in Grosse Pte, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan on February 18, 1978. Henry's wife Vera G. died on March 08, 1978.
Walter Buchhorn followed his brother on June 24, 1978. He lived in Marine City, St Clair County, Michigan.
Willy Buchhorn also lived in Marine City, St Clair County and died on September 15, 1987. His wife Florence moved after his death to her daughter in Greenville, South Carolina and died on April 30, 2003.

A Lily Buchhorn appears in the US Social Security Index. She lived in Marine City, St Clair County as Walter and Willy did. She was born on December 05, 1920 and died in May 1983. She can't be Lilly Buchhorn from Burgdorf because Lilly was born before 1908. It was probably Willy's first wife.

A lot of questions are unanswered. I am asking you for your support.

Thousand thanks to Jean Becker who spend many hours in the Fort Wayne Library and Werner Buchhorn who contributed a lot of information.
