Shanghai, China
The Finance and Trading Centre of China
My last travel in October and November 2005 brought me also to Shanghai. Shanghai is the symbol of the prospering economocal power of China. All notables in the world opened a factory or an office in Shanghai. But this has also an disadvantage. The prices in Shanghai are expolded and you must pay a lot of attention not to spend too much money. The people changed also in Shanghai since my last visit for around 5 years. Some people wanted to invite me to a cup of coffee and they wanted to be my friend. I think they didn't have kind thoughts in their head. But this didn't make the charm of Shanghai smaller. Nanjing Road, Yu Garden or the Bund are same attractive as before.
The view from the Bund over the Huamgpu river to Pudong. Pudong is the economical and finance centre of Shanghai. 12% of the total population of Shanghai, that are around 1,2 million inhabitants, live in this relative young quarter. |
Pudong at evening. Unfortunately is the quality of the picture not the best but you can guess the overwhelming sight of the colorful illuminated buildings. |
The Bund is a promenade which leads along the Huangpu river. Small cafés, restaurants and stands are located there. The Bund is a favourite meeting point and is used for strolling around. Lovers meet each other during the late night and enjoy the romantic of the surrounding of the Bund. |
The buildings are illuminated also at this side of the Huangpu river. The energy costs must be immensly high. |
The old British customs hous with the clock tower and the Hongkong-Shanghai Bank with the dome are located at the Bund. |
. . . also these buildings are illuminated during the night. |
In Shanghai is a People's Square existing. The Renmin Guangchan. The People's Square is a large green island right in the middle of Shanghai and accommodates also the Shanghai Museum and an exhibition hall which documents the urban development of the city. |
The development of the surrounding of the People's Square is also very impressive. |
The Fuzhou Lu leads from the People's Square directly to the Bund and opens the view to the Oriental Pearl Tower. |
An interesting shopping Street is the Nanjing Road. The hotel in which I resided in the past is seen in the background. My repeated moveinto it was prevented by a price of 149 Euro per night. Exploding prices. |
The Nanjing Road during the night. The colorful illumination can't be better in cities like Hongkong. |
It is no miracle why China has so bad energy problems. . |
This was my hotel during my last stay in Shanghai. The Yangtze Hotel In the Hangku Lu. |
The coat of arm of the People's Republic of China. |
