Die größte Moschee der Provinz Qinghai befindet sich in Xining, in der Dongguan Strasse. Sie wurde um 1380 herum erbaut und schaut nun auf eine Historie von mehr als 600 Jahren zurück. Seit das neue China im Jahr 1949 gegründet wurde, wurde die Moschee mehrfach renoviert und restauriert.
Die Moschee bedeckt eine Fläche von 11.940 qm und ist somit großzügig angelegt. Der Baustil vereinigt traditionelle chinesische Architektur mit islamischen architektonischen Merkmalen. Bei einem Besuch der Moschee fällt als erstes der elegante Bogeneingang ins Auge. Auf der Tür steht der Name der Moschee geschrieben. Auf jeder Seite des Eingangs befindet sich ein Xuanli Lou (Xuanli Pavillion). Der Xuanli Lou ist der Ort, wo der Imam Leute zum Beten auffordert. Er ist 8 m hoch, hexagonal angelegt und besteht aus 3 Stockwerken.
Der Platz innerhalb der Moschee hat eine Größe von 30.000 qm. Die Gebetshalle ist das Hauptgebäude der Dongguan Moschee. Es bedeckt eine Fläche von 1.136 qm. Die gesamte Gebetshalle ist großartig und strahlend. Sie fasst mehr als 3.000 Besucher.
Die Moschee dient aber auch als höhere Lehranstalt für Islamismus und gilt nebenher auch als die führende Moschee in der Provinz Qinghai. Seit der Erbauung der Moschee wurde sie für Muslime mehr und mehr zu einem wichtigen Ort für Gottesdienste und Versammlungen. Zu islamischen Feiertagen kommen zehntausende Muslime aus allen Gegenden Chinas hier zusammen. In solchen Gelegenheiten zeigt die Moschee festliche Stimmung.

When traveling to the Mosque, the first thing you can see is the elegant arched door on which is written 'Dongguan Mosque'. On either side of the front door stands the Xuanli Lou (Xuanli Pavilion). The Xuanli Lou is special as the place where the Imams invite people to pray. It is 8 meters (some 26 feet) high, and consists of three floors which are hexagonal in shape.
There is a square with an area of some 30,000 square meters (about 7 acres). The prayer hall is the main building in Dongguan Mosque. It covers an area of 1,136 square meters (about 0.3 acres). The whole prayer hall is resplendent and magnificent. It can hold more than 3,000 people at prayer at the same time.
This Mosque serves as an educational center and institution of higher learning for Islamism, and also is the leading mosque in Qinghai. Since the Mosque was built, it has become an important place of worship and assembly for Muslims. When Islam's important festivals come round, tens of thousands of the Prophet's followers from every quarter come to participate in ceremonies and religious activities. On such occasions, the Mosque wears a festival mood.
